You can't beat a live concert, a good time, celebrating the old year out, and an artist with a ready-made song to carry you into the next year on New Year's Eve. And that's exactly what you get when Corey Smith headlines the North Myrtle Beach House of Blues of Dec. 31.
This will be Smith's fifth straight headlining gig on New Year's Eve at the House of Blues, according to the Sun News.
“It’s nice to have a tradition,” the "Maybe Next Year" singer admits. “People like coming down to the beach. Although it’s too cold to get in the water, it’s still a nice getaway, a nice destination.”
Smith has had a good year as well, his years of traveling and doing hundreds of shows paying off in his sixth release, The Broken Record, which was his first album to score on the Billboard charts (No. 114 on the Billboard 200, No. 17 on the Country Albums chart, and No. 6 on the Folk Albums chart). He also saw his song, "21," a song originally recorded for his first album, 2003's Undertones, climb to No. 50 on the Country singles chart.
Over the years, Smith has become a crowd favorite, blending his Paul Simon/John Prine sounding vocals with his acoustic guitar-driven rhythms, his music lending itself to Jimmy Buffett-like singalongs. And it is without doubt that he'll slide into "Maybe Next Year," a wistful song that pokes fun at Smith's own shortcomings in relation to keeping New Year's Eve resolutions, to celebrate the coming of 2012.

And it is all geared toward having a good time.
“It’s too much fun to count as work,” Smith noted.
