In his new memoir, “Coreyography”, Corey Feldman revealed the never before shared details of his drug abuse and sexual assault. In one book excerpt, Feldman revealed that it was his “dangerous stage mom” who “sucked the life” out of him using “calculated, controlling and disturbing behavior.”
The “dangerous stage mom” is none other than Corey Feldman’s mother, Sheila Feldman. She is responsible for his appearances in commercial acting at the young age of three. Feldman followed his big sister, Mindy into the acting business as she was a cast member on “The All-New Mickey Mouse Club.”
In his memoir, Feldman wrote, “As the family breadwinner, Mindy was granted a wide berth by my parents.” He went on to reveal that he hadn’t been quite as lucky as his sister. Corey wrote about how while his sister worked, he was “trapped” at home with his mother.
Feldman went on to write that his mother Sheila “was down, relegated to the confines of her bedroom, suffering from a mysterious range of maladies. In those days, I was too young to anticipate the high highs and low lows of someone with a depressive disorder, or to successfully navigate the unpredictable, violent swings that are born of substance abuse.”
“I just thought she needed my help.” Corey described how his mom would make him rub her feet or brush her hair. Writing, “She would cry and fidget and whine and sometimes scream and fume and kick.”
“Those were the worst days, when her moods became like black holes, sucking the life from every corner of the house into that cold, dark room. She was beautiful but as I sensed even then, somehow dangerous.”
Corey explained how he was banned from having friends and even described one time when she bleached his hair with peroxide in the hopes that he’d receive more acting roles. “My mother is alternately scrubbing my scalp with her fingers and shoving my face under the faucet of the bathroom sink.”
“The peroxide burns and the smell is making me nauseous, but apparently I was supposed to have been a blond haired, blue eyed child. Instead, she got stuck with me. ‘This is who you were supposed to be’, she keeps telling me.”
Sheila Feldman would force Corey to learn songs by locking him in his bedroom. Feldman claims, “’You’re going to sing a song and they’re going to go, isn’t he cute?’ she tells me before locking me in my room with Mindy’s record player and instructions not to come out until I have learned every word.”
As he got older, Corey claimed his mother moved on to target his weight. “I do have round, chubby, cherubic cheeks, but I always thought that I would grow into them. Now she tells me that if I’m not careful, I’ll grow up to be a fat, disgusting pig … She lifts my shirt and pinches a fold of skin between her fingers.”
“Soon, there is a new rule: No eating at all until she wakes up. This is especially challenging because sometimes she stays in bed until two or three in the afternoon. I distract myself with toys …”
Dealing with his mother wasn’t the worst Corey Feldman faced as a child actor. In his memoir, he described the graphic sexual abuse he and best friend Corey Haim suffered.
