Aha! Maybe there's a reason why so many gals joined
this workout class! (Could it be they're hoping to have
a coregasm!?) Flickr photo/lulumon athletica
Yes, there really is such a thing as a coregasm -- in which a woman's "core" muscles and genitals are engaged in such a way as to yield an orgasm during a workout.
The "hidden" phenomenon of women reaching a climax as they exercise was coined the "coregasm' in an article in Men's Health magazine.
Seems that the types of exercises with the best opportunity for this "happy ending" involve moves in the horizontal position such as planks and stomach crunches, or moves hanging from a bar such as side crunches and leg raises.
By way of possible explanation, the Men's Health article, as well as a recent article in WomensHealth quotes sex therapist Victoria Zdrok:
"A lot of women require a buildup of tension in their legs before they can achieve the release of orgasm," she said. "So, when a woman exercises, the release of endorphins and dopamine, which are necessary for orgasm, combined with the tension in the lower extremities, can cause the clitoral stimulation" that is needed."
So, not only are you helping firm and tighten your core (stomach, lower back, butt and hips area) -- which in itself can help you have better sex -- you may also be getting an extra bonus while you work out!
Bottom line: Climaxing during a workout? Talk about an added incentive for staying fit! Woo-hoo: Let's hit the gym!!
