A Medford man was arrested on drunken driving charges Wednesday night after he allegedly drove the wrong way along the Long Island Expressway in Suffolk County, police said in announcing charges against him.
Warren Levine, 62, is awaiting arraignment Oct. 10 on charges of driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
Suffolk County cops said a highway patrol officer spotted Levine’s 2010 Honda traveling west in the eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway in Medford around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As the Honda continued to drive against oncoming traffic, other cars were “forced to swerve out of the path” to avoid collisions, authorities said.
Levine was eventually stopped on the entrance ramp of Route 112 off the expressway in Medford. No accidents or injuries were reported.
Police said Levine was arrested at the scene and then brought to the Sixth Precinct in Selden for processing. He was escorted from the stationhouse early Thursday to face a judge for arraignment.
