A woman shot and killed her husband and then herself late Friday afternoon outside a Kroger shopping center in Cobb County. But what prompted the double shooting remained unclear hours later.

Police late Friday identified the deceased couple as Bruce Strange, 52, and Paula Strange, 54, both of Kennesaw. It's unclear how long the couple has been married and whether or not they had any children.

The shooting happened shortly before 5:40 p.m. at 3600 Dallas Hwy. near Due West Road in Marietta, according to Cobb County police. Officers responded to the location after getting a report of a person shot on the sidewalk in front of the Kroger store, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

When officers arrived, they discovered the two bodies, Pierce said. He did not say how many times the man had been shot or what type of weapon was used in the shooting. The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the crime scene and assumed jurisdiction of the bodies, Pierce said.

Crime tape was placed around a portion of the parking lot where the shooting occurred, but the store remained open after the shootings, according to a media report.

Witnesses told Channel 2 Action News they saw the man on the sidewalk talking to the woman in a Honda Element just before the shooting. He started yelling, “Please don’t do it,” then he ran.

It's unclear if the woman was still inside the car when she allegedly shot herself.

Anyone with information, which may assist investigators in determining what led to the shooting, is asked to call (770) 499-3945.
