Cops: Stolen truck crashed into Port Jeff Sta. auto body shop (Photos)

An investigation has begun into an incident that occurred Saturday morning at a Port Jefferson Station auto repair shop, where a stolen truck was used to smash through a repair bay door, Suffolk County police said.

Investigators believe an unknown person entered the property of Family Automotive at 941 Hallock Ave., possibly hopping over or cutting through a fence. Authorities said the suspect then started a truck which was parked in the auto shop’s parking lot. The stolen vehicle, a plow truck, was then driven straight into the building, through a service area where another vehicle was being worked on, cops said.

The vehicle being repaired, a Chevrolet Nova, was also damaged when the stolen truck plowed through the wooden doors of the repair bay, police said.

According to a police spokesperson, Sixth Squad detectives are now investigating the incident as felony criminal mischief and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

On Saturday afternoon, a man was seen repairing the broken garage door, while the vehicle used in the incident was parked in the middle of the shop’s dirt parking lot.

A phone called placed to Family Automotive went unanswered on Saturday. As of this writing, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
