Detectives are investigating after finding a teenager shot in the foot while responding to a call of gunfire at a deli in Uniondale, Nassau County police said March 16.

It was 1:33 a.m. on Sunday when First Precinct patrol officers received a ShotSpotter notification – an electronic police alert – that indicated a weapon had been fired in the area, a news release said. When patrol officers responded to The Lucky Deli at 939 Nassau Road in Uniondale, they found that an 18-year-old male victim had been shot and taken to the hospital.

Police said the victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the foot and was taken in a private vehicle to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately known Monday.

Investigators recovered three .32 caliber shell casings from the scene and learned six male suspects fled the location in a “light colored minivan or SUV,” the news release said. Detectives are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
