Homicide detectives in Nassau County are on the hunt for a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash after the Sunday morning incident left a pedestrian dead on a Hempstead street, police said in a news release.
The fatal crash occurred Dec. 1 at 1:17 a.m. along Fulton Avenue near Bennett Avenue in Hempstead, authorities said.
The 39-year-old victim was crossing Fulton Avenue when he was struck by a 2000 black BMW that was driving the wrong way, according to police. The car, which police said had license plate GEU3305, was traveling west in the eastbound lane.
The victim was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, but was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 1:40 a.m., police said. His identity was not released.
According to detectives, the suspect fled the scene immediately after the crash and was last spotted heading west on Peninsula Boulevard.
