Detectives suspect an arsonist may be responsible for a Sunday fire involving a small shed at a nature preserve in Seaford and they are now seeking the public’s assistance to find the culprit, Nassau County police said Monday.
The Nov. 3 fire started at 6:55 p.m. and involved a small storage building on Merrick Road next to the Tackapausha Pond in Seaford. Authorities said the land is owned by Nassau County and is associated with the Tackpausha nature preserve.
Officials said members of the Seaford Fire Department were able to extinguish the blaze, but the building suffered “substantial damage.”
Police released a photo of the building in a Monday news release. Investigators said the fire has been deemed suspicious in nature and is currently under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers may remain anonymous.
