A Freeport man was arrested Sunday after police said he was caught on video burglarizing a home in his neighborhood and stealing an assortment of jewelry and electronics, according to a Nassau County police news release.
Juan Plasencia, 23, of 204 Church St., is awaiting arraignment Oct. 4 at Nassau First District Court in Hempstead on two counts of second-degree burglary.
Police said Plasencia was caught on video surveillance entering a home on Southside Avenue in Freeport on Oct. 18. Detectives said the homeowner was an acquaintance of Plasencia.
In a report of the incident, police said Plasencia broke into the house jut before 10:30 p.m. and stole a laptop, two watches and diamond earrings.
Just about half an hour later, Plasencia allegedly showed up back at the house. This time, cops said, he brought another man, and the two allegedly tried to steal a flat-screen television from the home. They were unsuccessful and eventually left.
On both occasions the burglars were caught on home surveillance video, the news release said.
Police are still looking for the second man involved in the burglary. Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
