An East Islip man was arrested Sunday after he was caught in the act by cops after allegedly breaking into several cars at the West Sayville Seafood Festival, Suffolk County police said.
Nicholas Montalbano, 20, of East Islip, will be arraigned Aug. 27 at First District Court in Central Islip on a slew of larceny, stolen property and drug charges.
A Seventh Precinct officer was assigned to a special detail at the West Sayville Fire Department on Sunday, when he allegedly noticed a man attempting to break into several cars in the parking lot. The officer, James O’Callaghan, a Community Oriented Police Enforcement officer, arrested Montalbano at the scene.
The officer recovered electronic devices, credit cards, marijuana, controlled substances and a switchblade, during Montalbano’s arrest.
Detectives later learned that the items recovered had been previously stolen from cars in Bayport, Bohemia, Sayville and Montauk, police said in a news release.
Montalbano was charged with third-degree and fourth-degree grand larceny, two counts of petit larceny, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.
