Armed with a shotgun or rifle and a handgun, two men robbed a drug store in Marietta – even after an employee managed to fight them off and escape.
On Saturday, officers arrested one of the suspects for armed robbery, aggravated assault and kidnapping, police said. They were still searching for the second suspect Sunday.
The armed robbery happened around 8 a.m. March 13 at Rite Aid at 731 Whitlock Ave., according to Marietta police.
The suspects entered the store with a shotgun or rifle as well as a black handgun and stole an unknown amount of cash, police spokesman Detective Chris Lindsey said.
“The suspects also forced a female patron to the rear of the store, but she was able to fight one of the suspects off and flee,” Det. Lindsey said.
The suspects fled in a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, but a witness noticed the vehicle and was able to provide the tag number to detectives, Det. Lindsey said.
Through evidence and the witness statement, detectives were able to identify one of the suspects as Mr. Travis Bernard Allen – the one allegedly armed with the shotgun or rifle, Det. Lindsey said.
The information was passed along to several local agencies who believe the same two suspects may be responsible for a series of drug store robberies in Gwinnett, Douglas County, DeKalb and Newnan since the fall of 2013.
On Saturday, DeKalb County police located the suspect and the getaway vehicle at 2571 Candler Road in Decatur and arrested Mr. Allen without incident.
The suspect was transfered to Cobb County jail from DeKalb County later that day.
