A Long Island man led cops on a brief pursuit and was caught “huffing” a can of stolen dust cleaner when he finally pulled over on the Southern State Parkway in Malverne, New York State Police said Tuesday.

Shatik Canady, 36, of Freeport, has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, resisting arrest and petit larceny.

According to police, Canady allegedly stole “several cans of dust spray” from an office supply store on Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead shortly before 8 a.m. on Monday. Hempstead Village Police were called and began to pursue Canady, who was behind the wheel of a brown Chevrolet Malibu. On the Southern State Parkway, state troopers joined the pursuit.

Cops said Canady was found when he stopped his car on the parkway in Malverne. When troopers approached him, they say he was inhaling the dust cleaner and refused to exit his car. Eventually he was arrested and issued an appearance ticket.

Canady is due to appear in court next month.
