Last week, police in Norristown Borough, Pa., began searching for Gerardo Cruz-Hernandez (aka Gerardo Cruz), 31, after they determined that he had repeatedly sexually assaulted a young girl over a period of three years, during which time the victim became pregnant.
The girl, now 15-years-old, has been raped at least 70 times, according to police.
Upon discovering that she was pregnant as a result of the abuse, Cruz-Hernandez reportedly forced her to have an abortion.
Recently, an alert teacher believed the girl was exhibiting signs of abuse and notified police.
The victim is now in the custody of County Youth Services.
Action News 6 reported:
Police were about to arrest Cruz-Hernandez, but say a woman close to him tipped him off, and he fled. That woman is now under arrest.
Prosecutors are coming forward with this horrible and delicate story because they fear Cruz-Hernandez may not be within their grasp much longer.
Police believe Cruz-Hernandez has left Pennsylvania and may be headed back to Mexico.
Upon his return, the fugitive will be charged with 70 counts of rape, aggravated assault, indecent assault, corruption of a minor and endangering the welfare of children.
Anyone with information on Cruz-Hernandez' whereabouts is urged to call Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS. All callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
