Cops: Freeport middle school principal had sex with teen boy

A middle school principal in the Freeport School District was arrested Wednesday accused of forcing a 16-year-old boy to have sex with him, Nassau County police said.

John O’Mard, 44, of 23 Iriving Ave., Freeport, the principal of the JW Dodd Middle School, is charged with four counts of third-degree criminal sexual act.

Police said on Sept. 15, 2012, O’Mard arranged a meeting with a then-16-year-old male teenager, who he had met online. O’Mard allegedly drove the boy to his Freeport home and “engaged in sexual acts with the victim against his will.”

In a letter to parents posted on the school’s website, Freeport Schools Superintendent Kishore Kuncham said O’Mard “has been administratively reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation.” It was not immediately clear where O’Mard would be reassigned to.

In the interim, Kuncham said a former assistant principal will take over as principal of JW Dodd Middle School.

O’Mard is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
