Rapper Flavor Flav was arrested Thursday morning on Long Island after cops caught him speeding and driving with more than a dozen suspensions on his driver’s license, New York State Police said Jan. 9.
The music icon – whose real name is William Drayton – was clocked traveling 79 mph in a 55 mph zone along the southbound side of the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Hempstead around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, police said in announcing his arrest.
The 54-year-old Las Vegas resident, who was a member of the hip-hop group Public Enemy, was also allegedly driving with 16 suspensions on his license.
He was arrested and charged with a felony, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, as well as other traffic infractions, authorities said. Drayton faces up to 4 years in prison, if he’s convicted of the top charge.
Police said he was released from custody Thursday on an appearance ticket so he could attend his mother’s funeral. He is scheduled to face a judge on Jan. 28 at First District Court in Hempstead.
