On May 20, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office announced that 30-year-old Carol Coronado, a young mother of three young children and resident of Torrance, Calif., was arrested in her Southern California home after police found her naked, covered in blood, and holding a knife with all three of her daughters dead in the home. The daughters, ages three, two and two months, were all discovered “lying in a pool of blood on a bed with their mother.”

KTLA reported that Coronado’s family members informed the deputies that arrived at the home around 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday that Coronado had killed her children. The gruesome massacre was discovered by Coronado’s mother, who had stopped by the home to visit the kids.

Deputies arrested the allegedly murderous mother, and led her from the home wearing only a blanket. She was examined at a local hospital before being booked for suspicion of murder at the Carson police station’s jail. Although KTLA reported that the children were all stabbed to death, the exact cause of the children’s death has yet to be officially confirmed by authorities.

According to Fox News, although investigators on the scene have reported finding several knives at the scene of the murder, Lt. Dave Coleman with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office said that it’s still not clear exactly how the three babies were killed. As of Wednesday morning, detectives were still on the scene “completing their investigation and clearing out of the scene.”

Late Tuesday, detectives were trying to piece together what happened. "There was a lot of blood," Lt. Dave Coleman said. "It was a pretty substantial scene inside the residence."

He said investigators recovered several knives but added that there "could be multiple causes of death.

NBC News in Los Angeles also reported that detectives haven’t as of yet released the official cause of the children’s deaths – or a possible motive for their killings. We do know that it was Coronado’s mother who made the frantic 911 call, saying her daughter “had killed or was killing the girls at the home in the 1000 block of West 223rd Street in unincorporated Torrance.” A witness seeing Coronado being led out of the house by deputies said that the woman was “naked, covered in blood and ‘zoned out.’”

Detectives shared that Coronado’s husband and mother were on the premises at the time of the killings. The three children that were killed were Coronado’s only offspring. For more on the tragedy in Southern California, see the video accompanying this article.
