Police are investigating after a Farmingville man was killed in a crash early Monday morning along the Long Island Expressway service road in Medford, Suffolk County police said.
Police said around 1:05 a.m., Kyle Mueller, 21, of Oakdale Avenue, was driving his 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound along Expressway Drive South when he “apparently lost control of the vehicle.” Investigators said Mueller was approximately 100 feet east of North Ocean Avenue when his vehicle left the roadway and careened through a guardrail and slammed into several trees. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Initial reports said police could not immediately identify the type of vehicle involved in the crash, because the vehicle was mangled beyond recognition. News photographs from the scene showed the car to be in at least two pieces. The service road remain closed until 6:07 a.m., according to state transportation alerts.
Mueller’s vehicle was impounded by police after the fatal crash. Detectives are continuing an investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652.
