A man and woman from East Patchogue were arrested Thursday and charged in connection with multiple home burglaries that occurred in Bellport, Patchogue, East Patchogue and Medford, Suffolk County police said.
Stephanie Maly, 20, and her boyfriend, John King, 25, both of 21 Rosalie Place, will be arraigned Sept. 6 on multiple felony charges at First District Court in Central Islip.
Police said Maly was found red-handed when Fifth Precinct patrol officers responded to a burglary call Thursday morning at a home on Otis Road in East Patchogue. As officers Alberto Acevedo and Eric Deprima were checking the home, they found Maly trying to escape through a side window, a news release said.
After her arrest, detectives started to dig deeper and discovered that Maly was responsible for seven other residential burglaries in neighboring communities, authorities said. All of the crimes reportedly occurred since July.
Investigators believe that Maly would enter the homes through unlocked windows and doors and then steal cash and jewelry. After the theft, her boyfriend, King, would pawn the stolen items for cash, said cops. Detectives were able to identify some of the stolen jewelry.
Cops charged Maly with eight counts of second-degree burglary. Her male counterpart faces four counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
