Sharon Martinez, 55, was issued a field appearance ticket Dec. 11 for severe animal neglect, a violation of the state’s agriculture and markets law, police said.
Police were first called to Martinez’s home at 61 Lincoln Ave. on Sunday after receiving a 911 reporting that her two pit bulls were being neglected. When a police officer arrived to the house, he found the two dogs “severely emaciated and chained to a tree,” cops said.
Photos taken by police at Martinez’s home show a large metal chain and red dog collar attached to a tree against a backyard fence.
The officer and an SPCA investigator removed the two dogs, Nina and Papa, from the home on Sunday. The animals were taken to the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in West Islip and evaluated.
A veterinarian “determined the dogs had been severely neglected,” which prompted police to issue the appearance ticket on Wednesday. Martinez will appear in court at a later date.
