Zaheer Ahmad, 21, of 78-02 21st Ave., will be arraigned Aug. 18 on a charge of second-degree burglary at First District Court in Hempstead.
Detectives said Ahmad was working for Crown Builders Corp. and doing “exterior work” at a home on Charlotte Drive in Merrick on Thursday, when he allegedly entered the home and stole jewelry from a bedroom.
After noticing the missing jewelry, the homeowner called police and detectives arrested Ahmad on Saturday. Authorities have not yet been able to recover the jewelry, the news release said.
Attempts to reach representatives from Crown Builders on Sunday were unsuccessful.
Ahmad remained in police custody and could not be reached for comment. On Sunday morning, he was being held at the Nassau Police detention facility in Mineola and awaiting arraignment.
