Cops: Body found in Miller Place was 'victim of violence'

A homicide investigation is underway after a man’s dead body was found Wednesday afternoon on a beach in Miller Place, Suffolk County police said March 13.

Authorities said a man looking for driftwood along the shoreline discovered the man lying on the sand in front of the Miller Beach Surf Club on Harbor Beach Road in Miller Place. As first reported Wednesday, homicide detectives, crime scene units and officials from the county medical examiner’s office were investigating.

Police said early Thursday morning that a preliminary investigation indicates the man “was a victim of violence.”

The man’s body was taken to the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy is expected to be performed in the coming days.

Police said an investigation is ongoing.
