A North Bellmore man accused of shoplifting was found with a stolen handgun and other weapons when cops arrested him at a Walmart in Massapequa Saturday night, Nassau County police said.
Store security personnel spotted Alexander Hollinsworth, 25, removing numerous CDs and DVDs without paying, cops said. The loss prevention guards reportedly watched Hollinsworth leave the store located at 200 Sunrise Mall with the unpaid merchandise before confronting him outside and detaining him for police.
When police arrived to the scene, they found him to be in possession of a loaded .38 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun, a news release said. According to police, the weapon had been reported stolen in New York City.
As the officers searched Hollinsworth’s pockets, they found “metal knuckles, a dagger knife and numerous prescription pills in a plastic bag,” the news release said.
Hollinsworth was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, three counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglar tools and petit larceny.
He was held overnight in police custody and is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
