The Dec. 27 initiative landed three Long Islanders facing driving while intoxicated charges, a Levittown man facing a drugged driving charge and an East Setauket woman charged with driving while ability impaired, police said.
A total of 728 vehicles passed through the police checkpoint from 11 p.m. on Friday to 3 a.m. on Saturday.
The three people charged with driving while intoxicated are: Nelson Galvez, 42, of Centereach; Gary Greene, 54, of Yaphank; and Stephanie Dermody-McGonigle, 22, of Ridge. Police also charged Christine Derenzo, 21, of Levittown with driving while ability impaired by drugs and charged Lauren Isben, 24, of East Setauket with driving while ability impaired by alcohol.
All five were held overnight in police custody and were scheduled to be arraigned Saturday morning at First District Court in Central Islip.
Police said the operation was conducted “for the prevention of injuries and fatalities associated with driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Officers with the Suffolk County Police Department, Suffolk County Parks Police and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police conduct the checkpoint.
