A man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly attempted to kidnap and rape a woman in Athens. But two men came to the woman’s rescue and helped capture the man.
The incident happened around 10:10 p.m. near Hull and North Lumpkin streets, according to Athens-Clarke County police.
The 25-year-old woman told police she was sitting in her vehicle with the door open when an unknown man grabbed her and pulled her out of the vehicle, police spokeswoman Ms. Hilda Sorrow said.
“As he tried to drag her into the bushes she screamed and struggled,” Ms. Sorrow said. “Two males who were nearby heard her and came to her aide.”
They were able to free the victim from the suspect and detain him until officers arrived, Ms. Sorrow said.
After questioning the man who has been identified as Mr. Raymond Adolfo Galaza, officers arrested him.
Mr. Galaza, 31, of Live Oak Drive, was charged with attempted rape and kidnapping, Ms. Sorrows said.
Emergency services responded to the scene and treated the woman for minor injuries, police said.
