"Alexander the coppersmith did me a great deal of harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds..." 2 Timothy 4:10-17
Have you ever been left to yourself, betrayed by so called friends, left to hold the proverbial bag, in a crime (whether misdemeanor or felony, venial or mortal sin) which you did not commit. Personally, pastoral ministry in my home diocese has been one big 'Alexander the coppersmith' experience. And I am not alone. But there is one saving truth, One truly Innocent Victim who not only reminds me that I am not so innocent but, more importantly, that I am forgiven and called to Rise above the past in the Victory of His Crucified and Risen Love.
"The LORD is just in all his ways and holy in all his works. The LORD is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth." Psalm 145:10-13, 17-18
For in the end, it doesn't really matter if the shepherd of the flock (the bishop) endorses lies against the faith. It doesn't matter if progressives have exited the trojan horse and spread infection among Holy Mother Church; for my own sins are an equally great infection. And the Lord alone is Holy; wholly sufficient to the task of saving all those who believe, and follow Him.
"Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves." Luke 10:1-9
We are part of the Mystical Body; a body with both wheat and weeds. Some of the wheat will sadly turn to weeds; joyfully, some of the weeds will become wheat in Divine Mercy. Only God can judge from within the heart of His Harvest. Our pilgrim-disciple mission is not one of glory, but one of lambs among wolves. If there is a Catholic among us who is experiencing earthly glory, 'temporally' glorified for his, or her, witness, run from the limelight, since even Lucifer can appear as 'an angel of light.' It is probably much better to be in the company of those who suffer the manifestation of the 'image and likeness' of the beaten and bloody Nazarene, hanging from His Cross--though innocent--punished for His greatest crime--our salvation in His Gospel Truth.
