There’s a reason why Charles Clark and Grant Cooper of Clark Cooper Concepts have had success after success. Their mini empire of restaurants -- Ibiza, Brasserie 19, Coppa, and now Coppa Osteria -- literally have a pulse on what people want. They have this uncanny ability of creating not just food, but a space that resonates with their clientele, and at last night’s preview party of Coppa Osteria, it was clear that they have a winner on their hands.
The bright, open space, attractively lit by modern chandeliers, is trendy and fun, the turquoise and yellow logo acting as the central theme for the restaurant’s decor -- wooden chairs accented in turquoise and yellow, plush, velvety carpets in a deeper blue turquoise, and barstools covered in the same shade turquoise velvet.
With a large, open kitchen, and a glass-enclosed pasta-making room, along with a front facing service window for selling pizza by the slice, Coppa Osteria is fashioned to fit right into Rice Village. You can totally imagine yourself stopping by to pick up a slice of pizza on the way home from work or school, or when you’re hungry and in the neighborhood.
Executive Chef Brandi Key helped design the restaurant, which boasts a community table, comfortable white lounges, and options for couples and larger groups to dine. Key says the kitchen was designed to function not just as a restaurant kitchen, but as a training ground and test kitchen for both Coppa locations.
The menu will be comprised of current Coppa Ristorante favorites, along with some items designed specifically for the West University crowd, and will feature “a menu of Piatto Del Giorno, artisanal Salumi and Formaggio boards, house-made pastas, handcrafted pizza and sandwiches, along with a great selection of small plates, soups, salads and deserts.”
Guests at the party last night were treated to a slew of single bite canapes, including: meatballs in marinara sauce, prosciutto and melon balls, crispy arancini (fried rice balls), caponata crostini, sausage bites, truffle and prosciutto bread twists, and meatball sliders. Bubbly, red wine, and white wine was also served to the crowd of approximately 450 guests.
Coppa Osteria is set to open on Wednesday, September 18, 2013.
Coppa Osteria is located at 5210 Morningside and will be open Monday through Thursday 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
