AS Roma defeated UC Sampdoria with a lone goal and advances to the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia. Roma is now scheduled to meet Serie A Champions Juventus FC.

As reported by ESPN Deportes, Roma defeated Sampdoria 1-0 on Thursday in the first knockout round of the Italian Cup. The goal was scored early, in the 6th minute, by Greek defender Vasilis Torosidis.

The lone goal by the Greek defender was enough to put Roma through the next round in which the Roman team will face Juventus, who holds the Serie A Championship title, two-straight, and is currently in the lead in Serie A as well.

AS Roma had lost to Juventus earlier this month, January 5, 0-3 at Juventus’s house. In that game, Roma was trying to catch up in points in the Serie A table, as Roma holds the second spot.

The quarterfinal game between AS Roma and Juventus FC will be almost like a final for this edition of the Coppa Italia as the two teams are the top two in the domestic league.

As for UC Sampdoria, the team is out of the tournament and will concentrate on moving up in the Serie A table this coming weekend for round 19.
