Copa MX: Monterrey continue perfect pace

Despite not doing too well in La Liga MX, CF Monterrey is on a roll in the Clausura 2014 of the Copa MX with four wins in as many games. The Rayados remain as the only team with a perfect record in the midweek competition and lead Group 1. Monterrey destroyed Cruz Azul Hidalgo 4-0 at the Tecnologico Stadium to keep their perfect pace.

Tigres UANL and Alebrijes de Oaxaca follow suit with three wins and a draw. Dorados de Sinaloa also has three wins, but they have lost one. Queretaro FC and Atlante FC also lead their groups with a pair of wins. The Potros de Hierro must look out as Pumas UNAM is close behind them and could take the group in the final games.

Not doing too well are Chivas de Guadalajara, one of Mexico’s most popular teams. Chivas is five points behind Dorados. The other first division team struggling is Atlas FC, the only squad from top flight that has yet to win in the competition.

With a team full of youth players and Leandro Augusto, Pumas UNAM defeated Merida FC 3-1 at the Olimpico Universitario Stadium in Mexico City. The felinos are showing good form in the Copa MX as well as La Liga MX. It could be that the universitarios are on the rise and returning to the days of a powerful Pumas squad. With two games left Pumas still has the opportunity to overpass Atlante FC and make the second round of the competition.
