Chivas de Guadalajara fell 3-1 against Coras Tepic FC at the Arena Cora in a soaked out game in the return leg of fixture 1 of the Copa MX. The Guadalajara-based team continues to have problems as they extend the crisis to the midweek cup tournament.
Former Chivas player Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista put the first goal on the board scoring for the Nayarit-based team in the 15th minute of play. An error on a clearance ended with the ball at Bautista’s feet. The talented player found the angle near the right post to give Coras the 1-0 lead.
The Rebaño Sagrado closed the gap in the 32nd minute of play when Edgar Solis had a remarkable shot that found the top left corner of the net for the 1-1. But the local side would take the lead in the 40th minute once more. Diego Hernandez received a long pass that he took into the area to easily get past the Chivas defense. He fired to the lower right corner to retake the lead 2-1 into the break.
Chivas tried to take the initiative in the second half. But it was Coras that would increase the lead to 3-1. Eder Pacheco received a cross shot into the area. With two markers on him, Pacheco jumped and headed the ball into the net for the final 3-1.
Coach Carlos Bustos made his substitutions late in the game bringing on Aldo DeNigris and Omar Bravo when the team was down 3-1. The substitutions were ineffective and for the remainder of the game there was no change in the scoreboard.
This is the third game in a row that Chivas falls. The goats began the season with a win and draw before defeating Coras Tepic at home. Then their luck changed. A 1-0 loss to German and FIFA Clubs World Cup champion Bayern Munich was followed by a 3-0 loss to CF Pachuca. Guadalajara is not in a good place to be losing games. Chivas is close to relegation numbers in La Liga MX. If they continue in this pace, the goats could be moving to the Ascenso MX division.
Chivas will host Club Santos Laguna on Saturday. Their next Copa MX fixture is against Zacatepec before taking on Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente.
