Atlas FC and Dorados de Sinaloa had a “goalfest” at the Jalisco Stadium during their initial game of the Copa MX on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. The Guadalajara based team defeated Dorados 4-2 in a game that was full of action. Aside from the Atlas victory, most of the Ascenso MX teams in today’s action defeated their La Liga MX counterparts.

Juan Carlos Medina opened scoring in the 7th minute on a set piece. Medina sent the ball over the defensive wall and into the net for the 1-0. The rojinegros doubled their lead past the half hour mark when Jahir Barrera sent a center to Aldo Leao. The Colombia cleared his marker and headed the ball into the net for the 2-0. Atlas had a comfortable lead.

Dorados would get on the board in the final minutes of the half when Javier Gomez broke the net to send the game 2-1 at the break. The action would continue in the second half.

As soon as the game resumed Dorados committed a foul in the area allowing Atlas a shot from the penalty spot. Jahir Barraza converted from the spot to increase the lead to 3-1. The game was under Tomas Boy’s team’s control. Atlas did as they pleased on the pitch not giving Sinaloa a chance to get ahead.

Martin Barragan found the weak spot in Dorados’ defense again, through the center and with a header to make the score 4-1. But the visitors would not go down without a final goal. Dorados managed to earn a shot from the spot in the final minutes of the game. Raul Enriquez took the shot to set the final score at 4-2.

Atlas will take on Dorados in the return leg on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at the Banorte Stadium in Culiacan, Mexico.
