In early July Kelly Thomas, a homeless schizophrenic man, was beaten and tasered to death by Fullerton, California, police.
John Bussman, a local defense attorney who has been protesting in front of the Fullerton police station claims the 135-pound man was unarmed, not on drugs, and had his throat and skull crushed by six officers after he was Tasered five times."
Then, according to the Friends For Fullerton’s Future blog that broke the story, the cops repeatedly watched the video of their vicious attack while writing their reports to ensure matching accounts to satisfy management.
One cop supposedly bragged about his involvement the next day.
What makes it even worse for people who unthinkingly defend the police no matter what is that Thomas was himself, according to the LA Times, the son of retired Orange County sheriff's deputy Ron Thomas.
Fullerton and their killer cops are located in Orange County.
Libertarians who follow Cop Block and similar pro-freedom sites know these cop murders are not merely "isolated incidents"; they've become so commonplace that many almost go unnoticed.
And that's just how countless police forces want it. Power is addictive, and virtually unlimited and unchallenged police power vested in the hands of dull-witted, ham-fisted, insensitive thugs, as so many cops are these days, takes on the aura of an irresistible aphrodisiac.
In the 1995 movie "Judge Dredd," about a dystopian future, Sylvester Stallone played just such a ham-fisted insensitive law enforcer who had the powers of cop, prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner combined and frequently carried out his death sentences right at the crime scenes.
But Dredd experienced an awakening about the truth of his own evil persona when he himself was arrested and sentenced to death for a crime he didn't commit.
And that's how we know that Judge Dredd is fiction.
How many power-drunk world tyrants can you think of that actually saw the light and redeemed themselves? Hitler? Stalin? Mao? Castro? American presidents who lied us into wars that resulted in the mass slaughter of their fellow humans?
These six cops will never comprehend that their own culpability in creating the police state will almost certainly result in their own children being Tasered and beaten by tomorrow's cops.
After all, the Blue Curtain of Silence didn't keep Ron Thomas' son from being murdered by fellow cops.
Unchecked power inevitably leads to unchecked brutality.
