A cop buys a woman $100 worth of groceries instead of arresting her for stealing a shopping cart full of food., this is the feel-good story of in the headlines today. Miami-Dade Police Officer Vicki Thomas made national news for her generosity, she appeared on Fox News live on Thursday afternoon Oct. 24 to tell her story.
Officer Thomas told Fox News that arresting the woman for shoplifting wasn’t going to feed her kids and it wasn’t going to solve the problem. Jessica Robles walked out of a supermarket with a carriage full of $300, which she didn’t pay for and she was caught. When Officer Thomas showed up to arrest the woman she asked her why she did this, according to ABC News.
When the officer asked her if she had any food at home for her kids, the woman said that she didn't and she took the food so she could feed her kids. The officer looked up the woman’s history to make sure this wasn’t something she’s done before and found she had no major charges in her history.
The officer then wrote her at ticket for a misdemeanor instead of arresting her for shoplifting, gave her the name of food banks in the area and purchased $100 worth of groceries for the woman and her children.
The officer told her she had only one request. When Robies gets on her feet, she asked that she do the same for someone else struggling. Officer Thomas has been inundated with phone calls for her good deed. She said that she and other officers at her precinct have done this before.
The officer said her reward for doing this was to see Robies little son rummage through the grocery bags that she bought, it was like Christmas she said. Robies aksi got a job out of the publicity.
