Coolmore Stud has issued an update on champion racehorse St Nicholas Abbey that is short, to the point and generally positive on Dec. 10. The incredibly brave, gutsy St Nicholas Abbey suffered a dreadful fracture in his right front leg in July and has overcome medical difficulties during his healing process, the latest of which is a life threatening battle with complications of laminitus.
The writer has been closely following every Coolmore release and update on the great horse’s progress and remain impressed by his strength and willingness to battle for his survival.
Together, Coolmore Stud and Fethard Equine Hospital released the attached private video of St Nicholas Abbey at the walk. The writer can only applaud all the parties involved in the horse’s medical care and, particularly, the horse for his fortitude.
The short statement from Coolmore says:
St Nicholas Abbey remains in great form despite the ongoing complications of laminitis and he's walking as good as can be expected.
We would hope to see progress in the laminitic foot over the next few weeks (hoping that he continues to grow the hoof); if this happens, rehabilitation of the fractured leg can then progress.
The brilliant Thoroughbred continues to be at risk from laminitis. We are hopeful he continues his epic fight to a speedy recovery.
