Staying fit in the winter and colder months can be a challenge. According to Vancouver Sun you can remain active all winter long. They reported on Dec. 3, 2013 with a dedication and a little creativity, you can still continue to lose weight and exercise even if it is snowing outside. A winter routine does not have to be a treadmill or other boring home equipment. Below are a few creative winter workout plans you may want to try.
Skiing and snowboarding is a sport which burns many calories. If you are newer to the sport, try going downhill instead of cross country variety. Most importantly, do not forget to dress warm and wear your helmet during the activity.
Experts all agree that having fun is one of the best ways to get your physical activity for the day. One of the best ways on a snowy day is a snow fight. Get your kids outside and have fun running in the snow, making snow angels or making snow balls and throwing them at each other. It is a fun way to burn extra calories and as a bonus you spend time with your precious children.
Most runners will tell you they do not let a little snow slow them down. They run anyway. They may run slower and need to walk more but, they still get out in the winter weather and run. Like skiing just make sure you dress in warm clothes being careful to watch for ice on the road, it is safe to run in the winter.
Make shoveling the snow off your driveway an intense workout. Shovel actually is a great cardio workout, and the snow being shoveled provides resistance building muscles in your arms and legs. The end result is a clean drive way with no snow and a complete workout.
Buy a sled
Sledding may not seem like an intense workout, however; it is a great workout. It is deceiving because it is such a fun activity. The first few times you go up the hill to go on your slide is easy. After three or four times, the hill will become increasable difficult to go up. You will feel the resistance when walking up the hill. It is amazing that such a fun activity as sledding can be such a great form of exercise.
Ice skating is a very fun activity. It is a great cardio workout, blasting your core and shaping your legs. The bonus is it is incredibly fun. Ice skating can be done either at an ice skating rink or at a park on a frozen lake (with caution). Ice skating makes a great activity to do with your favorite girlfriend or even on a date. Why not, get your exercise and spend time with your significant other at the same time; a definite win-win.
With fresh creative ideas, exercise in the winter does not have to be a boring treadmill or Stairmaster. You can have an exciting, fun work out even in the bitter cold winter months. What exercises do you do in the winter? Do you run in the cold or snowy weather?
