Another MSRA (Minnesota Street Rod Association) Back to the ‘50s Weekend has come and gone at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The popular family event continues to break records for both spectators and registered display cars. It’s proof once again you don’t have to own a classic car to join in the fun.
For the most part the weather cooperated, though a few rain showers came and went. Some grassy areas were mucky and plenty of cars had to be re-washed and detailed after driving to the show. We noted many cars from out of state, their license plates full of bug guts and grime. We’re not talking the bordering states either. Cars from Nebraska and even the east coast were on display. Good for them, getting after it on the road. There’s nothing like a road trip to liven the senses and dust the cobwebs out of the old carburetor.
The fairgrounds are undergoing some renovations in spots, mostly on the west side, where some new buildings are being erected. The area just adjacent to these new constructions were blocked off, so there was an overflowing of cars into the west parking lot that surrounds the old circle track, which used to serve as the swap meet staging area not that long ago. We can’t remember a time when this area was so full of cars, as the main streets that line the core of Back to the ‘50s are always full.
In all, the great car get-together showcased classics of all types, including hot rods, street cruisers, customs, and rat rods.
Here’s a collection of odd sights and some decidedly different rides from the show.
