“Yelp”, the awesome travel app that finds places for you to relax, shop, drink, eat and play based on reviews by locals in the know, just released a huge free update, according to an Oct 12 report in “PCMag”.
What's changed in the new “Yelp” version?
To start with, “Yelp” has dropped the “Home” interface.
Now, when you open “Yelp” you immediately see the “Nearby” tab, if you're using the iPhone version. Also, the shortcuts across the bottom have been replaced with new shortcuts for easier navigation: “Nearby, About Me, Search, and More”. After you select a place to hang out, you now have a larger button for writing a review, adding a photo, checking in or bookmarking your find.
If you're using the iPad version, you immediately see the location screen. Across the bottom of this screen you see the Search, Bookmarks, Recents, Monocle and About Me buttons.
Whether you're using the updated iPhone or iPad version of “Yelp”, the result is a sleek, polished new app that is easier to navigate, has larger notification photos and more responsive scrolling.
Also new to the App Store today is “Sky Tourist”, a free game that's lots of fun. In “Sky Tourist”, there are two rockets, one on the right of the screen and one on the left. Between these two rockets is a cable. Suspended from this cable is an astronaut, Petey Pendant, who dangles like, well, a pendant.
You control the two rockets with your index fingers so Petey can collect objects, avoid obstacles and hostile aliens, solve cute puzzles and more. There are achievements, costumes and rockets to unlock, different worlds to explore—and 75 levels!
“Yelp” is compatible with iPhone (optimized for iPhone 5), iPad, iPod Touch and requires iOS 5+. “Sky Tourist” is compatible with iPhone 4+, iPad 2+, iPad mini and iPod Touch 4th generation+.
