It may still be cold out there, but it's almost farmer's market season. Soon, there will be tents popping up in urban squares, zucchini overflowing from baskets everywhere you turn. There will be bunches of basil, bins of corn on the cob, and tomatoes in every color of the rainbow. What will you do with the bounty?
This summer, I'll be teaching Cooking with Farmer's Market Finds, a class at the Boston Center for Adult Education that will help you answer that question. Whether you've never shopped in at a farmer's market before or already know every vendor in a three-town radius, I've got tips to share with you.
We'll discuss the benefits of buying locally grown produce, ways to get the most for your money at a farmer's market, and some shopping rules of thumb. Then, depending on what's available in the market that day, we'll taste some unusual fruits and vegetables, and learn to cook several colorful dishes with a mountain of farm-fresh ingredients.
This one-night course costs $57 for BCAE members and $63 for non-members. Check the BCAE website for dates and times, and sign up online.
