Texas is known for its barbeque and beer and there’s a free event coming up next Friday that is set to combine both in an educational environment. On Friday May 2, 2014 the Institute of Texan Cultures is hosting Cooking up Culture: BBQ in Texas for guests 21 and over only.

Cooking up Culture: BBQ in Texas is an inside look into what sets Texas barbeque apart from other outdoor cuisines. Guests will get to sample local barbeque and craft beers while learning all about the history of barbeque and how it became a part of Texas culture. Barbeque will be courtesy of Pure Texan Barbeque Company, beer will be provided by The Barley Blacksmith and Alamo Beer. For those interested there will also be home brewing information by San Antonio Cerveceros.

Pure Texas Barbeque Company is a local catering company that has been in business since 2011 and caters to groups small and big. The Barley Blacksmith is based in Kenedy, Texas and their goal is to bring craft beer back to its roots by brewing beer one small batch at a time. San Antonio Cerveceros is San Antonio’s largest craft beer community whose purpose is to educate the community and promote awareness and appreciation of craft beers.
