Chef Stormy and I had the loving and wonderful opportunity to support and cook at the Walk With Me event held by Easter Seals/United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) on Saturday at Freedom Park. It was the 14th Annual Charlotte Walk With Me event.
We cooked pumpkin pancakes with cream cheese syrup for the crowds for three hours and it was a true joy! We were amazed to see that this years Ambassador, "baby Kennedy," had a CHEF daddy, Naman Hunter, from our very own Cleveland County. We had no idea he was the Dad. The Charlotte Observer had previously run a story on September 17 with a photo of baby Kennedy - so I knew who to look for.
We expressed to him why were there as we had no direct connection to Easter Seals and were not motivated via any need for our child (via Easter Seals) nor having ever used any Easter Seals/UCP services. Although we fully realize that for many this is how they came into contact with ES/UCP at first and now through a family member in need they had become highly motivated we fell into none of the normal categories.
He wondered why then – we were involved and donating time and money towards it.
The answer was simple, that - we were asked to help and we felt so grateful to have a healthy and vibrant little girl, our own baby chef Rania. We felt lucky and blessed and the need to help others with our love and care. He realized our gifts as expressed and shook my hand thanking me for caring, Chef to Chef. It was an amazing experience for myself and Chef Stormy.
The march was actually led by Stormy and I and it is a non-competitive 5k walk for the entire family and individuals of all ages. This event is sure to be a great time for the whole family in 2014 and includes many family activities, games and music. Baby Rania was dancing with the crowds, hula-hooping and more. Chef Stormy marched right next to me and played corn hole tossing and more. For information about Easter Seals, please contact Jacqui Bryant at email@example.com or 704-566-6040 x 1236.....
