Forget Christmas cookies that are just “cute”—Crystal Horton is ready to show aspiring bakers how to make their cookies runway ready.
Two years ago, Horton left her job as a visual designer to pursue her love for baking and fashion. “When I gave my two weeks notice I was so happy,” explains Horton of knowing her risk to become an entrepreneur was worth it.
In her online bakery, Tasty Morsels, Horton has managed to fuse her two passions, creating cookies that are both stylish and delicious. Now the go-to girl for personalized treats, Horton has an impressive clientele of major fashion industry clients, such as Bvlgari, DKNY, and Harper’s Bazaar magazine. Her cookies range from copies of runway looks (which earned her a multipage spread in ZINK magazine) to portraits and even Angry Birds characters.
Dubbed the “Cookie Queen” by Teen Vogue this year, Horton has no plans to slow down in 2012. Online, she will be launching a behind-the-scenes blog with everything from her best tips to video tutorials. She’s also planning on opening her kitchen to the public for cookie decorating lessons in hopes of becoming even better known around her beloved Brooklyn community.
