The new song "Cookie Dance" by Chip Chocolate was able to quickly rise up the iTunes charts the past few days, as a new mock rap star was born from YouTube. The song reportedly reached as high as No. 1 in terms of hip-hop songs on the iTunes Sweden charts, and has ranked top 20 for United States hip hop songs on iTunes.
According to Headline Planet on Sept. 24, Drake's new album "Nothing Was the Same" was off to a strong start in terms of sales this week. The site notes that the album should be the No. 1 overall on Billboard charts next week, and will make for Drake's third No. 1 album. That's 3-for-3 for the former "Degrassi" star-turned-rapper.
Drake's album currently tops the United States iTunes album charts, and his numerous songs fill up the songs charts on the music store. As of this report, Drake (real name Aubrey Graham) has eleven of the top twenty songs for the iTunes Hip Hop charts, including the No. 1 song overall, "All Me" featuring 2 Chainz & Big Sean. Other songs on the top 20 include "Berzerk" by Eminem, "Holy Grail" by Jay-Z (with Justin Timberlake), and "23" by Mike Will Made-It featuring Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J.
Surprisingly, among those other top 20 singles in hip hop and rap, is the song "Cookie Dance," which was released by Chip Chocolate, an alter-ego rap identity for YouTube "vlogging" star, Jesse Wellens. Wellens, who is joined by his girlfriend on the popular BFvsGF vlog, released the track due to his love for cookies, as well as to poke fun at the hip hop genre and all the explicit topics that continue to get played out on the radio. The couple currently has over one million subscribers on their YouTube fan base, which has helped add to the hype for the new song.
According to Jesse on his Sept. 26 YouTube vlog, the digital download was up as high as the No. 49 position overall on the iTunes songs chart. Wellens has noted in another episode of his YouTube videos that he is planning to film a music video for the song in Los Angeles, but as of this report, it's unknown when the music video will arrive on YouTube. However, it should be interesting to see just how far the "Cookie Dance" can climb and if it will surpass or "crumble" against more established hip hop stars on the charts.
The "Cookie Dance" by Chip Chocolate is currently available at the iTunes Music store for $0.99 as a digital song download.
