This toffee bar recipe combines the creamy deliciousness of chocolate and the rich buttery taste of toffee. If this mouth-watering idea sends you to the kitchen, the reaction of your friends, family, and guests will be worth your effort. Toffee bars are one of those perfect desserts; easy to make and everyone loves them.

If you’re looking for something to take to a party or just to have at home, bars are perfect. They require less time than cookies, but give you equal satisfaction.

When making any recipe – especially a butter-based recipe like toffee – use real butter! To get the best taste and texture, using the real thing is important. Many people shy away from butter, assuming it to be not as healthy as other spreads or thinking it too expensive. If the expense is an issue, look for sales at your local store then stock up – butter freezes well. If you are a member of Sam’s Club, buy it there – it’s so much cheaper.

Toffee Bars Recipe

Ingredient for making Toffee Bars:

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 1/3 cup chopped chocolate-covered toffee pieces
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Directions for making Toffee Bars:

Beat butter and sugar; add egg and vanilla beating well. Beat in flour and salt.

Spread dough evenly in an ungreased 13x9 baking pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until the edges begin to brown and the surface is dry. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle evenly with the chocolate chips or chocolate pieces. In a couple minutes, when the chocolate is softened, spread it evenly over the entire surface. Sprinkle with the nuts and toffee pieces. Let cool before cutting into bars.
