These cookie bars are a delicious combination of Cheerios, chocolate chips, marshmallows and so much more! You’ve all heard of Rice Krispie treats and Chex Mix, well Cheerios is the basis for this recipe and they are delicious! This combination of ingredients results in such a tasty bar, you will have a hard time getting them out of your mind.
From the back of a Cheerio’s cereal box in the 1970s comes this layered bar called Chewy-os! Not only is it yummy – it must be good for you, as contains Cheerios (a fortified cereal). This perpetual favorite (can you believe they’ve been around since 1941) doesn’t always have to be served in a bowl with milk – this recipe will make you look at them in a whole different way!
Cheerios Bars Recipe
Ingredients for Cheerios Bars:
- ½ cup butter
- 1 pkg. yellow or devil’s food cake mix (unbaked)
- 3 cups miniature marshmallows
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup butterscotch chips
- 3 cups Cheerios cereal
- 14-oz. can sweetened condensed milk
Directions for making Cheerios Bars:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Put the butter in a jelly-roll (10 x 15) baking pan and stick the pan in the oven to melt the butter. Once the butter is partially melted, take the pan out of the oven and spread the butter until it is fully melted and evenly coats the bottom of the pan.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the melted butter. Sprinkle evenly with the marshmallows, then with the chocolate chips and with the butterscotch chips. Then sprinkle evenly with the cereal. Pour the milk evenly over the top of all the ingredients.
Bake about 25 minutes or until golden brown. While warm, run a knife around the edge of the pan to loosen the bars. Cool completely, then cut into bars.
