Cony and Lawrence advance in class A girls tourney

Augusta, ME- Freshman Nia Irving scored 28 points to lead the Lawrence Bulldogs girls basketball team to a 73-62 quarterfinal victory over Mt. Blue at the Augusta Civic Center on Friday evening.

Freshman Dominique Lewis made two shots from beyond the three point arc and scored 18 points for the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Paige Belanger added 13 points.

The final game of the day saw the Cony Rams knock out the number one seed.

Cony (13-7) outscored the Edward Little Red Eddies 16-4 fourth quarter and cruised to a 52-35 victory.

Hayley Quirion hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points to lead the Rams. Josie Lee chipped in with 16 points. Emily Quirion scored 13 points including seven in the fourth quarter.

Cony will face Lawrence in a class A semifinal game on Wednesday, February 20th at 4 p.m. Lawrence defeated Cony 51-50 on January 8th.
