Bright Blessings!
Woot!!!! Woot!!!! With a Hey Nonni Nonni and a Ha Cha Cha!!!!!!!!!!!
It is time for ConVocation here in Michigan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!In its 18th year, this event is still going strong. A yearly pilgrimage for many in the magical world, it is four days of education, fun, and dynamic exchange that I have found to be a kind of merging of Pagan Spring Break, the United Nations, and a Training Retreat. This year emphasizes the request for ritual dress if attendees are able.
(Do not miss the roving bands of belly dancers that seemingly appear from thin air.)
February 23rd through February 26th , there will be amazing classes, workshops, fellowship, and events that will more than satisfy even the most discriminating metaphysical adventurer.
Once a year, the Magical Education Council hosts the Big Poppa of magical shindigs here in the MidWest. This year’s convention will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton, in Detroit, Michigan.
The happening is described, on their website, as “a convention of the many mystical spiritual paths and faiths who desire to teach each other and promote fellowship among all esoteric traditions”.
Workshops this year include: American Witchcraft and Folk Magic; Shape Shifting 101: The Art of Astral Shape Shifting; Initiation into Alchemy; Digging in the Dirt: Graveyards, foot tracks and Hoodoo oh my; The Sheya Teachings; You, the Moon and the Stars; Mythical Pathworking With Astrology; and others. For the children, (yes, the children!), classes such as: Moon Catchers; Dream Pillows for Younger Sleepers; Build Your Own Drum & Kids Drum Circle, and many more. There is even a bedtime story at night.
For the artistic appetite, there is the Art Show. Works have included statuary, canvas, as well as alternative media. Guaranteed to delight the eye and stimulate the soul.
In addition to this, the largest drum circle in the MidWest is sure to get your fires flowing!
The theme for 2012 C.E. is the Moon, following a long time tradition of basing each year’s theme on a Tarot Trump. Participants are to look forward to an event that promises to “use the power of the Moon card to allow us to spend four days in visions, insight, creativity and clairvoyant powers”.
Featured presenters include, Kenn Day - founder of Sheya, founding faculty of the SHI Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Michelle Belanger – occult researcher, author, and founder of the magickal society House Kheperu; Andrieh Vitimus - Usui and Karuna Reiki Master Teacher, Hougnan, and author of Hands On Chaos Magick; Jacki Smith – founder of Coventry Creations, Blessed Herbal Candles and author;and Jason Mankey – popular national Pagan lecturer; Dana Piper – drum circle leader with experience in Latin, African, and Middle Eastern drumming, and interests in photography, world travel, fire spinning; and DJ Tommytoony (aka Thomas Downey) - professional DJ for 15 years, and host of "Up in the Aether", a monthly steampunk gathering at the Phoenix Café in Hazel Park, Michigan.
Guests of Honor include some pretty heavy hitters!
They are Selena Fox, Raven Kaldera, Crow Swimsaway and Bekki Shining Bearheart , and Amber K and Azrael Arynn K. ! How is that for a line up?!
As if that were not enough, there is even a Masquerade ball for the young and young at heart. Children go first, then the grown folks. Take your best costume.
I have attended this event for many years, and can say that each year just gets better and better. Of course, most of the time, I have gone home with light pockets and heavy suitcases after visiting the vendor room. Hey, I am helping out the economy! Buy local!
