Back in September 2009, the police raided a house in Maywood for dog fighting but what they did not realize is the owners also operated a daycare from the same house. Three men were arrested in conjunction with the raid. The wife of the home was not charged with anything related to the dog fighting. At that time nine total dogs were taken from the home and from a nearby residence that belonged to one of the men arrested.
Charles Sutton, 42, pleaded guilty to dog fighting which is a felony in Chicago, IL. The other two defendants pleaded guilty back in December. Martez Anderson, 38, was sentenced two years for the felony charge and Lance Webb, 27, was sentenced eighteen months for his felony charge. Sutton’s wife was not charged with anything but the state of Illinois did check out the facility and the charges that were brought up from the dog fighting. The Department of Children and Family Services had previously checked on this daycare due to previous complaints about the dogs but did not find any harmful conditions at that time. Due to the charges against her husband and since this was at the current location of the daycare, the state revoked her daycare license.
