Convention season picking up this summer; upcoming May conventions

Summer is steadily approaching and with the warm weather comes an increase in convention activity in the Atlanta area. There are five (5) well-known and/or new conventions coming to Atlanta before the end of the month, so whether you're an anime junkie or sci-fi geek, there's sure to be something for you to enjoy.

May 22-26 Game-o-Rama – If you are into board games, card games, roleplay, etc. then this convention just might be the place for you. Taking place at the Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center, this con offers a variety of games and events for the avid game player. Play with what’s there, or you can bring your own (because you can never have too many games, right?) Memberships are $50 until 5/20, and then $60 at the door.

May 23-25 Momocon – Momocon is one of the fastest growing conventions in the country, focusing mainly on Japanese anime, American animation and video gaming. This year’s convention will include a game and media focused college and career fair on Thursday, May 22nd prior to the start of the con. Attendees can attend fan panels, a martial arts workshop, performances and meet-and-greet with some of their favorite voice actors, game designers, animators, etc. Momocon will be held at the Hilton Atlanta and Marriott Marquis hotels in Downtown Atlanta.

May 23-25 Timegate – Geared mainly towards fans of Doctor Who and Stargate, this annual convention will feature several Q&A sessions with guests such as Paul McGillion (Stargate Atlantis) and Gareth David-Lloyd (Torchwood, Enoch the Traveler), special screenings, Stargate Jeopardy, a concert by The Ken Spivey Band, and other events. Event will be held at the Holiday Inn Select, Atlanta-Perimeter Hotel. Weekend memberships can be purchased on-site for $60; check the website for additional information.

May 30 – Jun 1 Wizard World Atlanta Comic Con – Featured guests this year include Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohen, and Michael Rooker from the hit AMC series The Walking Dead; Jason David Frank (Power Rangers), James Marsters (Buffy, Smallville, Torchwood); Karen Gillan (Doctor Who); Kevin Sorbo (Hercules, Andromeda) and many more. Events include Q&A panels, autograph and photo sessions, a film festival and exhibitor/dealer areas. Held at the Georgia World Congress Center, tickets are available for daily, weekend and VIP access.

May 31 Shatterdome Atlanta – This one-day convention celebrates all things Pacific Rim. The convention will include discussion panels, an Artist Alley, PR costuming and much more.
