A convenience store clerk was shot multiple times and killed Sunday night southeast Atlanta and police said robbery appeared to be the motive.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man but is witholding his name until his family is notified. Police are still trying to determine who shot the man.
The owner of the Big Brother 2 Food Mart at 878 Norwood Road told investigators he found his employee dead in the front doorway when he went to close up the store shortly before midnight Sunday, according to media reports. The owner apparently called 911 and an officer arrived at the location shortly after midnight, according to Atlanta police. At 12:15 a.m. that officer then requested investigators to come to the scene, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said.
The man had been shot multiple times, Jones said. She did not release any details on where on the body the man was shot. Investigators said robbery appeared to be the motive, but so far no details have been released on what was taken.
Still, investigators are working to determine if security cameras inside the store captured images of the suspect as well as help them determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The owner said a neighbor may have seen a car parked in front of the store earlier in the night, but no one heard the shots or called police, according to Channel 2 Action News. Detectives are trying to determine when the shooting took place. It may have been hours before the victim was found, the news station reported.
