As an EX-IBS patient, I suffered for years from chronic and severe Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). I had symptoms of pain, bloating, urgency and even embarrassing moments and situations where there were no warning signs of the attack! YES, I was at a point where my gastroenterologist had nothing more to offer me, except suggesting that I wear adult diapers… Thank God for hypnosis. Since nothing else was going to make my life normal again, I choose to take over and hypnotized myself using the power of great suggestions.
Don’t get me wrong, I have seen other hypnotist as well, only they didn't have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), they didn’t live with it, all they had was the tools and techniques, and therefore, their help did not get me to where I am today. I had to learn on my own. I had to find out why it is happening to me? Let me tell you what IBS did to me – It cost me a lot of sadness and disappointment. I missed events, good food, special celebrations with my loved ones and it cost me sorrow, shame in my travel and work, especially as a motivational speaker in front of large groups of people. It cost me many cancellations, and being housebound.
Being a Hypnotherapist really saved my life, not only mine. I have learned to understand other IBS victims so I can offer the best tools to stop this unwanted embarrassing nightmare – the same ones I used to have for many years.
The good news is, there is almost nothing that hypnosis cannot do to make the changes we all need to alter our life, such as losing weight, quit smoking, healing from phobias and fear, natural childbirth, pain management, healing before and after surgery, boosting self esteem, motivation, confidence, anger management, and this is just a small list of what hypnosis can do for us.
Studies indicate that hypnosis is really a mind body technique and is suggested to our subconscious mind to ease the symptoms, heal, and even replace negative patterns and behaviors. It is really about the power of suggestion using cognitive language known as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), followed with hypnosis to implant positive suggestions related to the behavior, pattern or symptoms, such as helping with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), in reducing the pain that is caused by the cramps, the bloating, the gas, the diarrhea or for some the constipation that are linked with IBS.
Unfortunately I was not able to discover any cure for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), not even what is out there, such as prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications. There is almost nothing, from what I have used, that was helpful!
It is still a mystery as the real causes of IBS, but stress can definitely add to the disorder. That is why hypnosis is effective, because hypnosis is an excellent, effective drug free technique, to help reduce stress through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and hypnotic suggestions.
When a client learns to mange their stress and learns relaxation techniques, their mind helps reduce their IBS symptoms, and that is when the IBS victim learns to eat the right food, to relax, to exercise and to replace old negative patterns with new healthy patterns and behaviors.
Every now and then our IBS can revisit us, especially if we allow stress to take over. Thanks to hypnosis, I was able to help myself and get my life back. Also, I was able to help many clients who had IBS across Israel, the U.S. and Canada who happened to be appreciative to hear my story; knowing that they were not alone when I shared my concerns and fears with them, because I was someone who was an IBS victim too, and I was someone who could relate and understand their nightmares too.
Today I am traveling, having fun, talking in front of large groups, teaching and speaking without the fear of having an accident that will cause me a great deal of embarrassment. I am in control now.
